    Kanōzu Checkpoint

    A historic checkpoint on the Hachijūrigoe route connecting Aizu and Echigo, which dates back to the Sengoku period. The Umaya-nakamon-zukuri style building features a high ceiling and hidden rooms, and behind the checkpoint stands the Former Igarashi Residence, a nationally designated Important Cultural Property said to be over 300 years old, which is open to the public for free viewing.

    Mount Gamo and the Gamo Katakuri Park

    Mount Gamo, known as the “Matterhorn of Aizu,” features a hiking course suitable for intermediate to advanced hikers. About a 10-minute walk from the trailhead, you can see a beech forest. Katakuri (dogtooth violet) flowers begin to bloom from late April, welcoming visitors.
