Tadami Line Revitalization Project

Connecting People and Places
Let’s all ride the Tadami Line!

Tadami Line
Utilization Project

On October 1, 2022, the section between Aizu-Kawaguchi and Tadami stations resumed operations for the first time in approximately 11 years. With this, the entire line from Aizu-Wakamatsu to Koide has been reconnected by rail, marking a brand-new start.
In April 2023, the "Second Phase Tadami Line Utilization Plan" was established to promote the railway's use through a united regional effort involving Fukushima Prefecture, all municipalities in the Aizu region, Niigata Prefecture, and Uonuma City. Moving forward, we will launch various projects under this initiative.
All stakeholders are committed to working their hardest to ensure that everyone can enjoy riding the Tadami Line even more.

Tadami Line Utilization Plan

Basic Policy

  • Our Vision

The Tadami Line will serve as Japan’s premier "Regional Revitalization Route," utilized across four key sectors: Daily Life, Tourism, Education, and Industry. As these sectors synergize and grow together, they will transform the line and its surrounding areas into a destination that people want to ride and visit again and again.

  • Concept

"Leveraging unique people, products, experiences, and colors to pave the way for our future." — The 135.2km Challenge of the Tadami Line —

  • Three Basic Strategies

① Creating Local Charm and Improving Visitor Infrastructure
② Integrated Information Sharing and Strategic Promotion
③ Strengthening Regional Collaboration and Implementation Systems

Priority Projects

  •
    1. "Gono Line of the Sea, Tadami Line of the Mountains" Project

Run special themed trains unique to the Aizu region, with the future goal of establishing regular service for an original Tadami Line sightseeing train, similar to the JR Gono Line's Resort Shirakami.

  •
    2. Oku-Aizu Landscape Improvement Project

Remove cedar trees and overgrown vegetation that obstruct the scenery of Oku-Aizu to create viewpoints from train windows and along the line. Additionally, promote beautification efforts at stations and along the tracks.

  •
    3. Tadami Line Educational Train Project

Collaborate with existing educational programs to provide environmental education and hands-on learning at stations, on trains, and in local communities along the line, fostering the acquisition of practical knowledge and a sense of pride in the local community.

  •
    4. Inbound Tourism Re-acceleration Project

Actively develop promotions targeting East Asia, including Taiwan, while strengthening the support systems for international visitors in local communities along the line.

  •
    5. Tadami Line "Kankei Jinko" (Relationship Population) Creation Project

To leverage the presence of the Tadami Line for creating a "relationship population," we will develop exchange activities with university students and others, while creating and expanding opportunities for the Tadami Line Fan Club (Support Group) to take an active role.

  •
    6. "Everyone's Tadami Line" Project: Ride the Tadami Line

Increase local momentum and foster "My Rail" awareness to promote the use of the Tadami Line, while also nurturing a spirit of hospitality towards visitors.

  •
    7. Tadami Line Industry Development Project

Create opportunities for residents to take an active role by fostering industries unique to the region through the utilization of the Tadami Line, such as training guides and developing local products.

  •
    8. Tadami Line Secondary Transportation Improvement Project

Promote the use of the Tadami Line for both daily life and tourism by improving secondary transportation, such as circuit buses, rental bicycles, and rental cars.

  •
    9. Tadami Line New Value Creation Project: Carrying Happiness

Explore and test new ways to utilize the Tadami Line by maximizing its potential to improve local convenience and quality of life.

  •
    10. Tadami Line Charm Promotion Project

Strengthen promotion of the Tadami Line and share the region's charm through various media, including websites, social media, and television.
